Scout Cabin

The Troop Scout Cabin located in downtown Hamburg has been a cherished piece of Troop history.

An article from October 12th, 193[23] (year confirmation pending) titled “Scouts Dedicate Log Cabin Home” reads:

” Hamburg, Oct. 12 – The new log cabin home was filled Monday evening for the dedication of the Hamburg Boy Scout building and the October Court of Honor meeting of Livingston county. The meeting was in charge of Dr. Homer Mitchell Noble of Howell, district commissioner. Scouts were present from Howell, Hartland, Pinckney, Brighton and Hamburg, and Scoutmasters Ralph Albert and Theodore Kreiger of Howell, Russell Drodt and Basil McKenzie of Hartland, Don J. Noeker of Hamburg; also Wallace F. Watt of Washtenaw and Livingston counties.
The program opened with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner and a few remarks by Dr. Noble. Miss Jule Adele Ball gave a complete history of the Hamburg troop from the date of its registration, Nov. 30, 1930 to the present time. Excerpts from Miss Ball’s history follow: Miss Ball spoke first of the origin and world wide benefit of the Scout movement. The troop organized with Ralph Winkelhouse as scout master but who soon resigned on account of moving to Ann Arbor. He was succeeded by Emil J. Kuchar, and he in turn by Dan J. Noeker. Walter DeWolfe has been the only assistant scout master. The troop has had 24 members, one has died and some have moved away. The troop has two Eagle Scouts, one Life Scout, four Star Scouts and some First Class Scouts. The troop has been hosts to four Court of Honor meetings. They have had free use of I.O.O.F. hall for the regular meetings and other gatherings.
Their greatest undertaking was the building of their log cabin this summer. It has been made possible by the gift of the site by Charles S. DeWolfe, the logs by Dan J. Noeker, the stones for the fireplace and chimney by James S. DeWolfe and the building of the fireplace and chimney by William Wilson. Many other gifts including some money were received. They own a beautiful Scout banner and partly earned the balance, a gift of Wallace F. Watt. A gift that will be highly prized was placed over the mantel of the fireplace Monday evening – a large framed, “Original History of the Stars and Stripes,” over which hangs a large United States flag.”

Currently there is a GoFundMe setup to help fund repairs to save our Scout Cabin.
